Pre-K Program

Curriculum Goals

Pre-K is designed for children who will turn 5 years of age by January of the school year. Pre-k is also designed for children who are eligible for kindergarten but for various reasons need more time before entering elementary school.

In pre-k, teachers will begin by focusing on the same goals listed for the 4-year-old class. Once children develop a foundation of these skills, teachers will guide them to take learning to the next level.

Literacy and math skills are a huge part of this year of growth and development. This includes:

  • Letter recognition
  • Letter formation
  • Letter sounds
  • Syllables
  • Rhyme
  • Classifying
  • Graphing
  • Estimation
  • Measurement
  • And more

Through guidance and practice, pre-k students learn how to remain focused on tasks while other activities are going on around them. Children develop critical-thinking skills by solving problems and coming up with alternate solutions.

Children will have opportunities to learn how to control emotional responses and consider the ideas of peers. This is accomplished through classroom centers, one-on-one/small group work with the teacher, group games, table time, stories, journal writing, etc.
